Shrink Discs are flange-mounted external clamping devices designed for the backlash-free mounting of hollow shafts and hubs onto solid shafts. They offer a high-performance alternative to conventional connection methods such as shrink fits, keyed joints, keyways and polygonal shaft connections. By creating a direct frictional connection between the shaft and the hub, Shrink Discs provide exceptional concentricity, high load capacity and long-term operational reliability.
Unlike internal Locking Assemblies, Shrink Discs apply the clamping force externally to the hollow shaft or hub. The Shrink Disc itself does not transmit torque; instead, it generates the radial clamping pressure that creates a secure frictional connection between the mating surfaces. This enables the reliable transmission of high torque, axial and radial forces, as well as bending moments, without backlash or shaft damage.
Shrink Discs are completely wear-free and maintenance-free while offering outstanding fatigue strength under alternating loads. They are available in two-piece and three-piece designs, stainless steel versions and application-specific custom solutions.
