How it works ?
In concrete terms, an industrial shock absorber is composed of a rod with or without a bumper mechanically connected to a piston, a cylinder filled with oil and calibrated orifices. When a load exerts a force on the rod, the piston moves inside the cylinder and pushes the oil through the ports. The passage of fluid through the orifices creates a pressure drop. This pressure drop mechanically slows down the movement and transforms the kinetic energy of the impact into heat.
Some shocks use fixed ports, others allow you to adjust the size of the holes to adjust the oil flow to adapt the braking speed. Once the rod stroke is achieved, the kinetic energy 100% absorbed, an internal spring or rolling diaphragm returns the piston and rod to the initial position, ready for the next cycle.
